New Music Report: Expert Picks - Week of October 2nd

Rozes

There has been a lot of great new music released over the last few weeks. You can find out what was released this weekend in our New Music Report, but take a look at what we've been listening to lately. Our editors Nicole, James, and Isha have shared some of their Expert Picks for the week. Check it out below.

Nicole's Picks:

Rozes - "Famous"

Most people know Rozes from her Chainsmokers collab, but she's got bops of her own, and this is one of them. As soon as I heard "Famous," I knew I'd love it. Right off the bat, Rozes hits me with that uplifting melody, something that always draws me to my favorite songs.

Let's also observe the lyrical content in this magical tune, talking about that one special someone, who can make you feel ... well ... famous, no matter what. No matter how many Instagram followers, hits on the radio, or all of the above, there's only one person who can give that "Famous" feeling. She sings, "Baby, you make me feel goddamn famous/I feel so goddamn famous/You take what you want/Pieces of me, and my soul, and my heart/You make me feel goddamn famous."

Jauz featuring Rouxn - "Meant To Love You"

If you're looking for a new dance anthem, look no further than Jauz's new single "Meant To Love You" -- guaranteed to make you shake it all around your house, office, local supermarket, or wherever you may be listening to this song. Over a catchy house beat, vocalist Rouxn sings about having good intentions after something gone wrong in a relationship. he sings, "I think you've gone a bit to far/You hung me out to dry/And I only meant to love you."

James' Picks:

J Balvin & Willy William featuring Beyoncé - "Mi Gente"

It's been a quiet summer on the music front for Beyoncé, especially considering that she gave birth to twins, but Thursday night (September 28) saw the pop titan jump back onto the scene with a sizzling remix of J Balvin and Willy William's mega-hit "Mi Gente.” Best part of it all? Proceeds from her remix are going to hurricane and earthquake relief charities, including CEMA, UNICEF and Somos Una Voz for Puerto Rico, Mexico and other affected Caribbean islands. On the almost four-minute mix, the pop titan offers up some Spanglish lyrics, trading lines back and forth with the Latin chart-topper. "He say my body stay wetter than the ocean/ And he say that creole in my body is like a potion/ I can be a beast oh I can give you emotion," she sings during the second verse. Leave it to Bey to spice up an already hot track.

WYNNE - "Distraction"

There’s a special place on my October playlist for a song like WYNNE’s “Distraction.” It’s the lead single off the multi-talent’s debut EP, Both Sides, which is due before the year wraps. On the three-minute track, the London-born singer offers gentle vocals in his urge to learn what he means to someone — even know he’s fully aware of that person represents to him. Pair the sincere narrative with the cinematic production and you’ve got the perfect soundtrack to transition out of summer.

Isha's Picks:

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie – The Bigger Artist – "Undefeated"

A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie’s debut album, The Bigger Artist, has SO many dope tracks. In fact, all of them are hot. But, “Undefeated” featuring 21 Savage is the most standout song of them all. Let’s talk about the production first: it’s official. Then, when you add in A Boogie’s flow and 21 Savage’s follow up, you can’t help but understand that the song is lit. Once the beat drops and you hear the words the two are spitting, you won’t have a choice but to bump your head and feel it OD.

Tamar Braxton – Bluebird Of Happiness – "Pick Me Up"

Tamar Braxton’s fifth studio album, Bluebird Of Happiness, is an incredible piece of musical work. It’s true perfection for all of the Rhythm and Blues lovers out there. That’s why we adore it so much. One of the MANY standout songs on the project is “Pick Me Up.” It’s the shortest song on the album – unfortunately, it’s only 2:46 minutes long – but’s the best track to get you feeling good. The upbeat tempo, compared to the other slower songs, is inserted in the album at the most perfect time. After the first listen, you’ll replay it until you lose count.
